چکیده

We study numerically the evolution of rotating cloud cores, from the collapse of a magnetically supercritical core to the formation of a protostar and the development of a protostellar disk during the main accretion phase. We find that the disk quickly becomes unstable to the development of a spiral structure similar to that observed recently in AB Aurigae. A continuous infall of matter from the protostellar envelope makes the protostellar disk unstable, leading to spiral arms and the formation of dense protostellar/protoplanetary clumps within them. The growing strength of spiral arms and ensuing redistribution of mass and angular momentum creates a strong centrifugal disbalance in the disk and triggers bursts of mass accretion during which the dense protostellar/protoplanetary clumps fall onto the central protostar. These episodes of clump infall may manifest themselves as episodes of vigorous accretion rate (≥ 10 M⊙ yr) as is observed in FU Orionis variables. Between these accretion bursts, the protostar is characterized by a low accretion rate (< 10M⊙ yr ). During the phase of episodic accretion, the mass of the protostellar disk remains less than or comparable to the mass of the protostar. Episodic accretion at early stages of evolution of low mass stars and brown dwarfs: a solution for the observed luminosity spread in HR diagrams?

We present evolutionary models for young low mass stars and brown dwarfs taking into account episodic phases of accretion at early stages of the evolution, a scenario supported by recent large surveys of embedded protostars. An evolution including short episodes of vigorous accretion (Ṁ ≥ 10−4M yr−1) followed by longer quiescent phases (Ṁ < 10−6M yr−1) can explain the observed luminosity spread...

Spatially resolved star formation histories of nearby galaxies: evidence for episodic star formation in discs

Using long-slit spectroscopy from Moran et al. (2012) we constrain the radial dependence of the recent star formation histories of nearby galaxies with stellar masses greater than 1010M⊙. By fitting stellar population models to the combination of SSFR, D4000 and HγA, we show that the star formation histories of many disk galaxies cannot be accurately represented if their star formation rates de...

A systematic survey for eruptive young stellar objects using mid-infrared photometry

Accretion in young stellar objects (YSOs) is at least partially episodic, i.e. periods with high accretion rates (’bursts’) are interspersed by quiescent phases. These bursts manifest themselves as eruptive variability. Here we present a systematic survey for eruptive YSOs aiming to constrain the frequency of accretion bursts. We compare mid-infrared photometry from Spitzer and WISE separated b...

The role of tidal interactions in star formation

Nearly all of the initial angular momentum of the matter that goes into each forming star must somehow be removed or redistributed during the formation process. The possible transport mechanisms and the possible fates of the excess angular momentum are discussed, and it is argued that transport processes in discs are probably not sufficient by themselves to solve the angular momentum problem, w...

اثر مقاومت مغناطیسی متغیر بر ساختار قرصهای برافزایشی با پهن رفت غالب مغناطیده دوقطبی

In this work, we carry out self –similar solutions of viscous-resistive accretion flows around a magnetized compact object. We consider an axi-symmetric, rotating, isothermal steady accretion flow, which contains a poloidal magnetic field of the central star. The dominant mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the turbulence viscosity and magnetic diffusivity due to the magnetic field...
